Ponderings

I’m in the studio today adding texture upon texture to three canvases as I attempt to achieve the look and feel I’m going for. Once each canvas reaches its pause point, I will attach the two smaller canvases to the larger canvas and the three will become one -- a Triptych. Then I will start on the final layers of color. I’m feeling some anticipation and excitement as I experiment and see where this painting is taking me…..

Uncharted Waters

The inspiration for “Uncharted Waters” came from the beautiful blues and greens of the Caribbean waters shrouded by rolling fog on a misty morning. Texture and paper in shades of blue and green and white with a light pewter metallic over-glaze on stretched canvas.

Arts d'Vine June Event

VINEYARD'S SONG, 60 X 48

I’m just getting used to this new blogging thingy… here’s a photo of me with Vineyard's Song at The Factory during the Arts d’Vine event in downtown Kernersville back on June 5th. It was the first “one night” event I have participated in and it was so much fun. Met lots of great and interesting people and sold 4 paintings.

There will be another Arts d’Vine event coming up in October so check back for more details and come see me!

Streams / Streams in L.A.

STREAMS, 60 x 48

Acrylic/Mixed Media
Stretched Canvas
60 x 48 in.
SOLD (Commission)

Streams was a commissioned original contemporary abstract for a collector in California. It consists of layers of acrylic paste medium, paper and acrylic paints on canvas. It was intended to be symbolic of our journey in life. As we travel life’s journey, we go through desert times when life seems dry and without purpose. Streams is a reminder that even during the desert times of life when the going gets rough, there are streams of encouragement that continue to flow bringing us hope.

Thirty-Eight Below

Thirty-Eight Below - 40 x 30 x 1.5 - Vertical View

Thirty-Eight Below depicts fresh life waiting to emerge out from under the weight of everyday challenges. This original abstract has an underlying layer that consists of 38 blocks of various shades of green, thus the title Thirty-Eight Below

Thirty-eight blocks of color are hidden beneath thick taupe texture which is highlighted with gold and copper metallic paint. The streaks of metallic gold and copper on the surface are representative of how we can shine when using our gifts and talents that are usually hidden from sight.

Since Thirty-Eight Below is one of my abstracts that offers the versatility to hang either horizontally or vertically depending on what your space requires, here are photos showing what it looks like with each hanging option. It is also a painting that requires natural or direct lighting to accentuate the metallic highlights and streaks.

It is signed by the artist (sjh) and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Sealed with a satin archival UV protective finish, Thirty-Eight Below comes ready to hang. No frame needed.
